Properties of sodium thiocyanate
Sodium thiocyanate is easily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, and other solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral, and it will form blood-red ferric thiocyanide with iron salt; it will not react with ferrous salt; it will produce yellow sodium bisulfate with concentrated sulfuric acid, it will respond with cobalt salt to make dark blue cobalt thiocyanide, and it will react with silver salt Or copper salts to generate white silver thiocyanide precipitate or black copper thiocyanide precipitate.

Uses of Sodium Thiocyanate
It is often used as a pickling corrosion inhibitor and synergizes with other components. To improve corrosion inhibition efficiency, many industrial pickling corrosion inhibitors contain thiocyanate in finished products, and some patent pickling corrosion inhibitor formulations also contain thiocyanate components. Thiocyanate also has the effect of preventing the corrosion of high-valent metal ions. Due to the different corrosion mechanisms during chemical cleaning, it is difficult for ordinary pickling corrosion inhibitors to prevent the accelerated corrosion of structural metals by high-valent metal ions. Thiocyanate can be added to the system, and high-valent metal ions are reduced to relatively harmless ions. It is also used as a polyacrylonitrile fiber spinning solvent, a chemical analysis reagent, a color film flushing agent, a specific plant defoliant, and an airport road herbicide. Sodium thiocyanate can also be used in pharmaceuticals, printing and dyeing, rubber processing, black nickel plating, and manufacturing artificial mustard.
